Newton-Weston Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation at I-90/I-95

Newton and Weston, MA

VN led the design-build effort for a major infrastructure project aimed at improving the I-95/I-90 (Route 128) interchange located at the Newton/Weston border in Massachusetts. The project, initiated by MassDOT, addresses critical infrastructure needs by replacing, rehabilitating, and upgrading a total of nine bridge structures, including I-90’s crossing over the Charles River. Of the eight primary interchange bridges, five are being fully replaced, one rehabilitated, and two undergoing superstructure replacements.

VN Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design-build delivery of a bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and lighting
  • Bridge replacement, demolition, and rehabilitation design
  • Construction oversight and coordination

Washington Bridge Phase 2, Mass I-495 and I90 Design Build

Hopkinton-Westborough, Massachusetts

This project involves improvements at the Interstate 495 (I-495) at Interstate 90 (I-90) interchange in Massachusetts. It is one of the state’s busiest interchanges, in need of critical geometric, safety, and operational improvements to enhance safety and mobility for travelers. The project elements include 16 structures; accelerated bridge construction; traffic, utility, drainage, and highway engineering; public outreach and coordination; MBTA and freight rail coordination; as well as extensive wetland restoration, mitigation, and monitoring to comply with the environmental permits.

VN Engineers, Inc. will serve as a subconsultant to VHB for the I-95 and I-90 Interchange Improvement Design Build Project providing Independent Quality Assurance Review, Structural Design, and Specification Development services.
