Jamaica Capacity Improvements, Jamaica NY

This project encompasses making various track improvements and realignments in and around Jamaica Station as well as corresponding state of good repair work (SOGR). The work includes improvements and repair work on 30 structures ranging from bridges, tunnels, and via-ducts. For this project VN Engineers, Inc. provided services to include structural steel design of an overhang walk platform, steel connection design, steel gusset design, retaining wall concrete design, load development calculations, quantity development, 3D CAD modeling of the existing structures, and structural drafting of plans.

Rehabilitation of the I-95 North Bound Gold Star Memorial Bridge, New London and Groton CT

The rehabilitation project for the I-95 Northbound Gold Star Bridge over the Thames River, Railroads, and Local Roads includes the strengthening of the existing bridge and the replacement of the existing bridge deck. The structure consists of 23 girder-floorbeam-stringer spans, and 11 truss-floorbeam-stringer spans with a total length of 5,922 ft and 80 ft curb-to-curb width. For this project VN Engineers, Inc. is providing services including serving as Technical Advisor for the structural rehabilitation of the truss spans, development of the 3D MicroStation Models for plan production, design of structural components to include seismic keeper blocks, preliminary bearing design, and sequence of construction plan development for the replacement deck.

Long Island Railroad Design-Build Improvements at Great Neck, Nassau County NY

This design-build project involved the construction of improvements at Great Neck, Nassau County, New York, on the Port Washington Branch of the MTA Long Island Railroad (MTA LIRR). The construction efforts included replacement of Colonial Road Bridge, improvement of right-of-way and track drainage deficiencies, and installation of new twelve-car train pocket track. For this project VN Engineers, Inc. provided services including independent review of 90% and 100% design calculations and drawings of various retaining wall structures and signal bridge foundations for the Long Island Rail Road, monthly SWPPP inspections, auditing of the SWPPP reports completed by DB contractor, administrative support services and inspection services for landscape construction.

New Haven-Hartford-Springfield High Speed Rail Project Station Design

The New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program includes establishing upgraded rail service along a 62-mile rail corridor stretching from new Haven through Hartford and on to the Springfield area. The scope of this contract consists of the Design Development, Final Design, and Design Services during Construction for the High-level platforms, pedestrian overpasses, parking and other amenities at Wallingford, Meriden, Berlin and Hartford stations. For this project VN Engineers, Inc. is providing CAD drafting support services for the final design of the four stations.

New Haven-Hartford-Springfield High Speed Rail Project

The New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program includes establishing upgraded rail service along a 62-mile rail corridor stretching from new Haven through Hartford and on to the Springfield area. The scope of this contract includes final design services, and design services during construction, for new and rehabilitated bridge structures; new and rehabilitated culverts; and new and rehabilitated track support structures associated with planned improvements along the corridor. For this project VN Engineers, Inc. provided structural drafting for culverts, bridges and a retaining wall.

New Haven Rail Yard Facilities Improvements, New Haven, CT

Preliminary and Final illumination design for the New Haven Rail Yard Facilities Improvements, New Haven, CT.   The work includes thousands of feet of new track for storage and to move trains on and over the mainline and into the maintenance yard. A total of eight new buildings will be constructed and three buildings altered. An entire new roadway system, access and security systems are to be installed. VN Engineers conducted the lighting design infrastructure with the new track and roadway system.  Designed the spacing for the 100’ high mast light poles utilizing Visual Professional Edition (Version 2.06) lighting software and design in accordance with American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) standards.  Prepared electrical design computations including the sizing of the cabinet and voltage drop calculations in accordance with The Illuminating Engineering Society of America (IENSA) lighting handbook and The National Electrical Code (NEC) Handbook design criteria.  Designed foundations for 100’ tall high mast light poles.  Prepared detailed quantity & proposal estimates and special provisions.
