Tracy Kaplan, P.E.
President
Tracy Kaplan is the President of VN Engineers, bringing over 23 years of experience in the transportation industry. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida and is a licensed Professional Engineer in seven states.
Tracy has been an integral part of the VN team for more than 15 years. Her expertise spans a wide range of transportation engineering disciplines, including roadway and rail design, utility coordination and relocation, lighting, signalization, and pavement markings. She has led numerous complex infrastructure projects with a focus on safety, sustainability, and community impact.
A former board member of ACEC Connecticut, Tracy is a dedicated advocate for the consulting engineering profession. As President of VN Engineers, she is committed to fostering innovation, collaboration, and high-quality results while building strong relationships with clients and communities.
Robert Gomez, P.E.
Senior Vice President
Robert Gomez is the Senior Vice President at VN Engineers, bringing 40 years of experience in the transportation engineering industry. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in six states and has served in key leadership roles, including President of both the Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Highway Engineers.
Throughout his career, Robert has managed more than fifty roadway design projects and spent over 25 years in project management, earning a reputation for technical excellence and strong leadership. His expertise also extends to rail planning and design, with significant work completed along the Eastern Seaboard. In recognition of his contributions to the profession, he was named Civil Engineer of the Year by the Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers in 2015.
In addition to his engineering accomplishments, Robert is the author of Looking Forward to Monday: A Guide to Success in Corporate America for People Starting Out or Switching Jobs. He recently completed a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee in September 2025, reflecting his lifelong passion for learning and the arts.
Michael Murdock, P.E.
Vice President
Michael Murdock is a Vice President and Principal Structural Engineer at VN Engineers, with extensive experience in both traditional and design-build transportation projects. He brings deep technical expertise in structural engineering, including complex steel and concrete design, finite element bridge modeling, post-tensioning, and the rehabilitation of existing structures.
Michael is highly skilled in the use of innovative materials and methods, such as ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and accelerated bridge construction (ABC) technologies. He is also proficient in bridge load rating methodologies including LRFR, LFR, and ASR. His research has been published in the International Bridge Conference, where he authored two technical papers on bridge design and analysis: The Decision Process in the Selection of Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques for the Replacement of I-64 EB and WB Bridges over Route 156 in Richmond, Virginia, and A Comparative Investigation of Cross-Frame Chord Member Forces in Curved Steel I-Girder Analysis Software.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Auburn University. Known for his precision and problem-solving capabilities, Michael plays a vital role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions and supporting the firm’s ongoing commitment to technical excellence and innovation.
Amanda Marino, MBA
Vice President
Amanda Marino is a Vice President at VN Engineers, bringing over 15 years of experience in business operations, construction inspection oversight, and human resources management. Her leadership has been instrumental in supporting the firm’s day-to-day operations, proposal development, staffing, and strategic growth across all markets.
Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in Human Resources from Central Connecticut State University and earned her MBA from Southern Connecticut State University. She is an active member of the WTS Connecticut Chapter, where she previously served on the Executive Board and contributed to several committees.
Known for her collaborative approach and strong organizational insight, Amanda plays a key role in driving business development and cultivating lasting partnerships with agencies and clients. As Vice President, she remains committed to fostering a positive workplace culture while supporting the continued expansion and success of VN Engineers.
